Terrible experience Sep 09, 2010 I purchased the SD-2000 for ~$150 6 months ago. The installation was easy enough and the system seemed to work fine. In the last few days I noticed that my dog was sniffing around the fence with no audible warning. I checked the collar and thought it needed a new battery so I replaced it. It still didn't work so I checked the transmitter. The light did not come on even with a short 10 foot length across the terminals. I called Innotek customer support and they told me it was probably struck by lightning. They said they would replace the transmitter but they recommended I purchase a lightning protection unit so it didn't happen again. I asked why the unit didn't have protection built in and they said the newer more expensive models did. Then I was told my basic transmitter that is sold by hundreds of on-line retailers is not in stock and they couldn't tell me when it would be available. I could check back periodically to see when it would be. So bottom line is; if you live where there is lighting don't buy a SD-2000 unless you want to shell out an extra $40 for the protection and hope it never goes bad and needs to be replaced.

Fantastic Training Tool Aug 15, 2010 I'm a foster home for a national breed rescue and I specifically work with the dogs that have major behavior problems such as climbing, digging, anxiety, poor recall and fear based aggression. After taking a dog that consistently stymied my best efforts at keeping him in the yard, I purchased this fence. Because I am using it in conjunction with a physical fence I was able to skip most of the training. This fence literally solved my problems in about 24 hours. Please note that if you use this fence without a physical barrier you MUST go through the training steps for it to be effective. The only drawback to this fence is that it comes with a water resistant collar NOT a waterproof one. However given that I'm sure that sooner or later a collar will get chewed up or lost, I opted to go with the less expensive one. This is a very basic system with simple to use controls.
I cannot say enough about the fantastic training DVD that came with this fence. It covers not only the fence but using a remote training collar as well. I had purchased a Sport Dog remote training collar (same parent company) solely based on it's ability to be used on up to three dogs simultaneously and I prefer the Innotek training method to the Sport Dog method (note that the Sport Dog method is specifically designed for training hunting dogs, whereas I'm working with basic obedience and behavior issues). The DVD is easy to understand and demonstrates the concepts clearly. I would recommend the Innotek family of products to anyone without hesitation. They are incredibly effective when used as designed!!
This Is An Amazing Product Jun 27, 2010 I purchase this product about 3 months ago and must say that I am very pleased with it. I have 2 sixteen months old akitas and I had them chained up for most of the times because they were not trained and I was scared of them running away or even hurting someone. I really did not like to see them chained up in captivity so I solicited the help of a dog trainer to assist me with them and after several training he recommended the Inotek system to keep the dogs on the property. This product is amazing.....my dogs stay on the property and are able to roam free. I am now a very happy dog owner. My dogs greet me in the evenings when I arrive home and i can see that they are enjoying their freedom tremendously. I just recently got 2 other pups so I will be using the same Inotek system to keep them on the premises. My only regret is not knowing about this great product before...I could have saved my dogs a lot of discomfort and myself a lot of worry. I would recommend this product highly and I give it 5 stars.
!!!!!!!Thank you Inotek for such a GREAT PRODUCT!!!!!!! and amazon for having this product available for purchase.

Good entry level invisible fence Jun 23, 2010 For a basic, barebones fence, it seems fine. Don't have the dog trained completely yet, but it works.
For installation, try a power edger. I got a special modded version from the local rental place for about 18$, it took me about an hour, or less to dig about 600 feet, and then about another hour to lay down the wire. You can also rent a 4 inch trencher that lays the cable for you, too. Rental places will know what you need, so just tell them what you are doing.
I gave it a 4 cause there is no way to adjust the zap that the dog receives, and I felt so horrible watching the Lhasa apso fly up in the air as he hit the edge, but I know we both would feel worse if he flew out the door, (accidents happen) and got ran over and killed or maimed. Or wandered off and got lost and starved to death.
You might need more wire.....
great no leash control Jun 04, 2010 we have 2 complete units - great no leash control while camping and traveling. Keeps that pesty digging out of my flower garden!!! And dogs learned quickly where the boundaries are, flags are very helpful.
