5Wonderful!  Sep 14, 2007
By K. S. "loving life"
I have the SD-1800 and love it. I have a 130lb, 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. I have had other breeds of dogs (German Shepherds, Rotties, etc... with no problems), but I was amazed how big he got and how fast it happened. Rigdgebacks are very stubborn dogs on top of all of this. They are a breed that if not trained to know who the boss is, will continually test their limits.

I tried training classes, chokers, and finally a pinch collar. He didn't even flinch, nor did he ever listen. I have a four year old son who was frightened by him, not because he was mean, but because he would knock him over, climb all over him and scratch him with his paws while trying to play with him. He just did what he wanted when he wanted. He would run full force into me and wipe me out, knocking me on the ground with his enthusiasm. He tackled strangers, tables, anything he wanted. Never in a mean way, he never growled or anything close to showing aggression. He was fine with anyone near his crate or food bowl, so he wasn't a mean dog. He was just out of control. He was meant to be an indoor dog, but his behavior had him spending most of time in our yard. I was saddened that I might have to find him a new home.

This collar was my last option and I am so glad that I tried it. I was so afraid that it wouldn't be strong enough and he wouldn't respond. He has a very high pain threshold. But I was greatly surprised. After 5 minutes on this collar he was no longer knocking me over. My first goal was to teach him "no." It took about 4 times to say it with the collar on and pressing the button, before he was responding to "no" without me having to press any buttons. He is great to be around now. He still charges me when he sees me and is excited, but he comes to a complete stop about a foot in front of me and then sits for me to pet him and love on him. I don't even need him on a leash anymore. He responds to my commands easily.

On the technical aspects of this product, I love that it is completely waterproof, not just water resistant. We have two ponds on our property that he loves to jump in. So that is a great benefit. The remote is small and easy to use. And it is also waterproof. Both can be submerged completely in water and be fine. This is not considered a "throw away" collar, meaning if it is broke, you can still fix it. I looked at the models that were cheaper by other companies, but for a little more in price, I was able to get one that would last much longer.

Needless to say, I love this collar! It allowed me to keep my puppy and make him a real part of our family.

5Great System  Feb 08, 2008
By Walisa
This changed our lives (seriously)! We have a 70 lb border collie/lab mix who BOLTS when given a taste of freedom. This isn't a large problem as we've trained him to be a great on-leash running partner, and we have a fenced in backyard. But, we live next to a 3 acre open field and feel badly that he cannot meet other dogs off-leash despite all sorts of positive reward training.

We bought this unit, and watched the basic DVD. Your dog needs to grasp the basics (sit, heel, stay, come); however, it is ok if they don't get it -- clearly ours ignored come 99% of the time. It has 8 shock settings that I tried by strapping the collar onto my bicep -- 1 through 3 are various levels of static electricity-intensity shocks; 4 is a bit stronger than your worst static electricity shock, kinda like putting a 9v battery on your tongue.

We went to our field, put our dog on a 100yd nylon leash and the collar. In 5 minutes, I felt confident enough to take the leash off. We spent 95% of the time on the #1-2 setting; I've only had to go to a #4 three times in the past week, when he was intent on tracking a deer or another dog. It is VERY obvious when you have your dog's attention at what level you should be stimulating. With no distraction, a #4 level shock would make him whimper sadly -- clearly too powerful; however, with a deer in sight, a #4 just causes him to pay attention to you and follow the "come" command, no whimpering whatsoever. God forbid we ever need more than #4, but I guess it's nice to have extra power.

We can now go for walks with our toddler and the dog off leash, and he is totally attentive to us. He stays no further than 50 yards, and has a really fun time. We appreciated the humane-ness of the training dvd--it really is clear from his body language when he's enjoying training, and when he's had too much.

It has a steep pricetag and I do wonder if we could have gotten by with the lesser-range products. But I think it was 100% worth the price; I put it up there with the iPod as a revolutionary tech gadget for our lifestyle!

5Dane Train gets training  Jan 30, 2012
By Dane Train
When I got this product the collar wouldn't charge. Because it's an older model the battery had died. I called Sport Dog and emailed my receipt and they sent me a new battery @ no chaarge. I was pleased and am using the sport dog collars to train my danes off leash training.
The company who sent me the collar sent it immediately and when I told him of the problem he told me what to do or I could return it to him.
