Not Effective for a small dog Feb 10, 2010
I ordered this hoping it would be a humane way to keep our Maltipoo from entering our kids playroom to either chew small toys or urinate to mark her territory! It seemed like a great idea and after demonstrating to her what would happen following the warning tone she was terrified and ran in the other direction. However, she quickly learned she could prance right by it without detection by the sensor. Both the kids and myself seemed to trip the motion sensor almost every time but she seemed to be too small to effect the sensor. I tried several things to try and make it work like making the passage extremely narrow so our dog had to walk within a few inches of the unit, set the range of detection to 36 inches, verified the batteries were new, tried the unit at different heights to detect our small dog but nothing seemed to work. I spoke with the company and they have agreed to send another one in case we happened to get a bad motion sensor but I'm not very optimistic at this point.
